The Xbox/Bethesda presentation provided us with the first gameplay trailer for Starfield. The new role-playing game was unveiled by Bethesda at the Microsoft Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. During the gameplay reveal for Starfield, the mysterious moon of Kreet was shown off.

Although this is the first time we’ve seen Starfield in action, its appearance at the Microsoft Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase was never in doubt. Last year, Starfield game director Todd Howard hinted that the game’s gameplay would be revealed around summer 2022.

As much as we’ve seen from the engine, we haven’t seen what it’s like to play Starfield in real time until today’s Xbox-Bethesda showcase, which finished with an extended look. Exploring the moon’s surface, we examined native species, mined for materials, and even invaded a hostile base after arriving on a beautiful moon landscape.

Starfield is Bethesda’s most ambitious game to date, drawing on the company’s prior blockbusters like Skyrim and Fallout games. A completely open galaxy of roughly 1000 planets awaits players in Starfield, where they can design their own character with unique talents and features and explore the galaxy onboard a customisable spaceship.

Players will embark on a galaxy-spanning expedition to find artifacts of unknown provenance while defending themselves against the wiles of rival factions and horrific creatures in the story.

Gameplay

We land on the moon of Kreet in the early phases of gameplay, one of the more than 1,000 worlds players can fly to and investigate. Bethesda’s new Creation Engine 2 powers the first Starfield gameplay footage, which shows a player freely traveling about in both first-person and third-person views, collecting materials and upsetting critters that are also foraging on the many planets in Starfield.

The action moves on to a deserted research facility where a band of pirates has taken up residence. This is where we see the XP advancement mechanism in action after each kill and the many weaponry available in Starfield. ” It’s even possible to deploy a jet pack to drive yourself toward your adversaries. Locked weapon cases can be found around Starfield, and as in past Bethesda games, they must be pried open in order to find valuable items.

It’s all about Constellation, the final remaining group of space explorers. This gang of explorers is searching for treasures across the Starfield systems when you encounter them in New Atlantis. Do you know what this collection of artifacts is for? That’s the challenge. If you’re aiming to take on the pirates in Starfield, there are many groups you can join.

For a small sliver of time in the trailer, it appears that you can dock your spaceship with other ships in space.

It’s a small point, but one that has the potential to be intriguing. Use it to meet up with the other NPC while you’re both in orbit. Or board and examine abandoned ships, and maybe add them to your personal collection of weapons and armor. For bounty hunter missions, docking and boarding a spaceship to wipe out the crews and their leader would be a great addition. While it’s not confirmed, there’s a brief clip showing the player fighting in zero gravity in what appears to be the inside of a ship. At the very least, it’s one more thing you could do with your spacecraft.

It wasn’t everything there was to see. Among other things, we witnessed a bit of a plot, beautiful landscapes, and some interesting dinosaur-like creatures. Then there’s the character builder, which allows for extensive personalization of features like looks, class, and skill sets for each character. It’s also possible to fine-tune the design and functionality of spaceships.

The joy of watching a planetary landing process in a videogame wears off after about a dozen repetitions, but that’s to be expected. Because there isn’t a whole lot going on when it’s happening: You’re simply strapped in, holding on, and hoping for the best. The result of this is that Todd Howard, speaking to IGN, says that while Starfield gives players a great deal of freedom, it does not allow them to fly seamlessly from orbit to surface.

“We decided early in the project that the on-surface is one reality, and then when you’re in space it’s another reality,” Howard said.

“If you try to really spend a lot of time engineering the in-between, like that segue, you’re just spending a lot of time [on something] that’s really just not that important to the player. So let’s make sure it’s awesome when you’re on the surface and awesome when you’re in space, and those realities look and play as good as they can be. “

Release Date

A year has been added to the release date of Starfield in order to allow the creators more time to fulfill the promises made in the game’s marketing.

Starfield’s release date was pushed back from November to the first half of 2023 last month, after initially being scheduled for that month. Bethesda’s followers have been waiting a very long time for this announcement, which was long rumored and finally made official in 2018. After the delay, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer pledged that the company would perform better.

For the time being, Starfield will only be available on Xbox and PC.
